  • Project Manager

    Scalar Consulting Group is looking to fill Project Manager positions (10+ years experience) with highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starters in either of the following offices:  West Palm Beach, Tampa, and Maitland. This is a full-time position.



    Duties and Responsibilities:


    Oversee the design and preparation of construction plans, specifications and estimates on highway projects including: development of horizontal and vertical geometries, preparation of plan and profile plans, design reports, design calculations, typical sections, pavement design, roadway cross sections, drainage plans, temporary traffic control plans, plan quantity computations, construction cost estimates, signing and marking plans, signalization plans, lighting plans, temporary traffic control plans, and utility relocation coordination.

    Perform detailed design and preparation of construction plans including: development of drainage basin maps; preparation of stormwater plan and profile plans, design reports, design calculations, pond layouts and details. Knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology required. Exposure to CADD techniques a plus.

  • Senior Traffic Engineer

    Scalar Consulting Group (Scalar) has an opening for a Senior Traffic Engineer/Project Manager to support our offices, at any one of our locations thought Florida. This position will entail working with engineers, planners and environmental scientists related to transportation projects, Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies, or safety initiatives for the Florida Department of Transportation and other local and regional entities. 


    Responsibilities

    • Support senior staff on existing projects and marketing initiatives

    • Lead analyses related to traffic operations and analysis

    • Perform crash analysis to identify safety deficiencies and recommended solutions

    • Document existing and future traffic conditions and make recommendations related to roadway or traffic operations to support multi-modal users

    • Interact with clients and staff in communicating the results of the above traffic analyses and conclusions

    • Develop staff hours/budgets related to traffic engineering tasks 


    Qualifications

    • BS in Civil Engineering or related field

    • 10+ years of experience

    • Florida PE or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire is a plus

    Scalar Consulting Group is seeking to hire a Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Project Administrator (PA) to join our Florida team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for financial and construction contract administration of assigned infrastructure projects and will support the Senior Project Engineer as directed. Positions are available in one of several areas including South Florida - District 4, Central Florida - District 5, and Florida’s West Coast – District 1 & 7. This is a full-time position.


    Desired PA experience having performed/assisted in project related duties (i.e., Materials Acceptance and Certification (MAC) System, progress, and final estimates, EEO compliance, processing Construction Contract changes, etc.).  Should be able to exercise independent judgment in planning work details and making technical decisions related to construction and the office aspects of the project. Should be familiar with FDOT Procedures covering the project related duties and be proficient in the computer programs necessary to perform these duties.

    Facilities Periodic Maintenance Manager / FRP Inspector


    Responsibilities shall include performing condition assessments of building/facilities and their components, using this data to identify and recommend Periodic Maintenance projects that are needed, and assisting with the Facilities Rating Program (FRP) inspections.  


    This position also will be responsible for assisting with development of and the management of site specific periodic maintenance contracts; this will require the review and approval of invoices, purchase orders, and other modes for purchasing used in the performance of this work.

    • Maintains the status of contractor’s work orders, ensuring work orders are performed in a timely manner and assure allocated contract budgets are not exceeded through the Operation Management System (CMMS System).

    • Manages the daily activities of assigned contractors and maintains records through the Operation Management System.

    • Coordinates and participates in advanced technical maintenance, repair and testing of the facility equipment and maintains its operational condition.

    • Ability to document and report the inventory of Turnpike Facilities equipment for his/her assigned area.

    • Ability to follow and ensure compliance with the Turnpike Safety Program

    • Participate in Hurricane pre and post damage assessment activities

    • Perform off hours on call duties as needed

    • Perform final Punchlist inspections of new sites/buildings

    • Strong computer skills; including Microsoft Office, Adobe, scheduling software, etc.

    • Perform other duties as assigned such as: emergency response, assessments, recovery operations, etc.


    This position will also review plans to provide comments for maintainability and to determine future impacts to Facility inventories.  


    This position will also support the inspection and verification of the maintenance activities and work performed by the Facilities Performance Based Maintenance contractor.  These work types and inspections may include such items as: generator/ATS; HVAC; electrical; plumbing; UPS systems; roofing; and general building maintenance activities.  Assure all work is performed in accordance with contract requirements, regulations, standards, codes, safety requirements, etc.


    Maintain proper documentation of inspections and work that has been performed to ensure that acceptable quality standards are met, including written reports and photographic documentation.


    Position Requirements:

    • Valid Driver License

    • Ability to work in the field and perform inspections in various weather conditions, including ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

    • Five (5) years of work experience in Building management or facilities maintenance required and at least one (1) year of experience overseeing contractual documents and contracts. Experience should include technical knowledge of HVAC, Electrical (to include standby generators and/or uninterrupted power supply systems). Technical college degree preferred.

    • Certification of a 40-hours Occupation Safety Health Administration (OSHA) course.

    • Trained in Maintenance of Traffic, Building and American Disability Act Codes.


  • Environmental Scientist

    Scalar Consulting Group is seeking to fill an Environmental Scientist position with a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter in the Orlando/Maitland area (preferred) or West Palm Beach or Tampa (other office locations). This is a full-time position.


    Requirements:  

    1. Minimum 4-year college level degree in biology, environmental science, or equivalent science-based degree with minimum of 4 years of work experience following graduation. Graduate level degree may be considered in lieu of a portion of work experience.

    2. Legally allowed to work in the United States.

    3. Ability to travel to other office locations and other parts of the state with overnight stays to accomplish assignments.

    4. Proficiency in the skills and responsibilities below.


    Responsibilities:

    1. Collect, analyze, and report data related to biological natural sciences such as habitats, wildlife, water quality, soils, etc.

    2. Conduct habitat mapping and characterization field efforts

    3. Field delineate wetlands in accordance with federal and state criteria

    4. Conduct protected floral and faunal surveys

    5. Collect data required for natural resource permit applications

    6. Complete permit applications

    7. Use ArcMap GIS for data collection, analysis, and compilation of exhibits for reports

    8. Assist the firm in other capacities when needed, such as with internet and phone call data gathering, public involvement activities, and other tasks as needed


    Skills and Abilities

    1. Knowledge of Florida’s ecological communities and classifications, floral and faunal species.

    2. Detailed knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations pertaining to wetlands and protected species.

    3. Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to interface with clients in meeting and presentation formats.

    4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, as well as ArcMap GIS.

    5. Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to transition between multiple work assignments on a regular basis, and sense of urgency to meet client deadlines.

    6. A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.

    7. Ability to work in Florida’s challenging outdoor environment.
