Bridge Design & Inspection

Structural Services

Our structural engineers provide innovative design solutions for simple to complex structures. We specialize in short span concrete and steel bridges, major concrete bridge design and repairs, major steel bridge design and mast arm/pole foundations, retaining walls, and box culverts. With expertise in newer technologies such as cathodic protection and carbon fiber design, Scalar has developed a wide array of standard design details that can result in significant savings in design cost and schedule.

Our structural services provide procedures utilized to check the adequacy, structural integrity and soundness of structures, and load rating of their components. An assessment is made to evaluate a structures current and future use and conformance to current building codes.

Zipprer Bridge Replacement.

The bridge located in Polk County is spanning over environmentally sensitive SFWMD C-37 Canal. The existing bridge needed to be replaced due to insufficient pile capacity. The bridge is 231 feet long and uses 3-span configuration (66 feet + 99 feet + 66 feet) supported on 36” FIBs.

Structural Inspection

Our evaluation process involves visual observations of structural members condition and connections for any signs of structural deficiencies, including any evidence of distress and material deterioration.

 Structural Assessment Report

We observe existing conditions and structural framing details to gather sufficient information for a structural assessment report. Key findings are based upon visual observations and our experience with similar structures.

Highway and Bridges

Assessments of an existing bridge may be conducted to develop a bridge load rating, confirm an existing load rating, increase a load rating for future traffic, or determine whether the bridge must be posted in the interest of public safety.
